How To Tie The Snowhite Damsel & Snowhite Extended Tail Damselfly Tutorial

Snowhite Damsel
Miles from Orvis at Clarendon is the one to thank for me sharing this pattern. The Snowhite Damsel is the most productive fly I have ever tied or fished. If I had the choice of one fly pattern for the rest of my life it would be this.

It is easy to tie and can be fished dead drifted, nymphed, stripped, and suspended below a big dry fly. I usually just tie it in chartreuse but white and olive work well and pink has been productive in the ocean around Kauai and Oahu.

This is the number 1 shad fly for the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers. Fish it on a sink tip with 8lb tippet. Don't tie the tail more than an inch or you'll miss the shad.

Here is a list of species caught by this pattern:
  1. American shad
  2. Gizzard shad
  3. Hickory Shad
  4. Black crappie
  5. White perch
  6. Yellow Perch
  7. Striped bass
  8. Lizard fish
  9. Largemouth bass
  10. Smallmouth bass
  11. Needlefish
  12. Rainbow trout
  13. Brook trout
  14. Golden shiner
  15. Long ear sunfish
  16. Pumpkinseed
  17. Bluegill
  18. Channel catfish
  19. Greensunfish
  20. Common carp
  21. Blueback herring
  22. Alewife
This is what the fly is made to mimic:
